The Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) has revised its fish purchasing prices, effective from today, in line with the government’s policy to ensure fishermen receive fair and sustainable returns for their catch.
Under the revised pricing structure, MIFCO will purchase all fish weighing one kilogram and above at a minimum rate of MVR 16 per kilo. Previously, this rate applied only to fish weighing 1.5 kilograms and above.
The revised prices were announced by His Excellency President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during the official Fishermen’s Day ceremony held last night in R. Dhuvaafaru. MIFCO confirmed that the changes take effect starting today.
As part of the revision, iced Skipjack tuna and Yellowfin tuna weighing one kilogram and above will be purchased at MVR 16 per kilo. Additionally, Yellowfin tuna weighing 15 kilograms and above will be purchased at a rate of MVR 18 per kilo. Skipjack tuna and Yellowfin tuna supplied without ice will be purchased at MVR 14 per kilo.
The revision was implemented following extensive consultations with the Ministry of Fisheries and reflects the government’s commitment to securing better prices for fishermen.
We reaffirm our continued commitment to enhancing operational efficiency while delivering quality services and competitive pricing to fishermen, without placing an additional burden on the state or the public.
