Operational work on the ice plant being developed in Veyvah, Meemu Atoll has officially commenced.
The project is being implemented by the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources through Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) as part of ongoing efforts to enhance ice availability for fishermen across the Maldives.
The agreement for the Veyvah Ice Plant project was signed on 27 September 2025, with the project scheduled for completion within 240 days. Materials required for the project have now been transported to the site, and foundation works for the ice plant facility are currently underway.
Upon completion, the ice plant will have the capacity to produce 60 tonnes of flake ice per day. The facility will also include an ice storage unit with a capacity to store up to 100 tonnes of ice, ensuring improved availability and reliability of ice supply for fishing operations in the region.

The establishment of the Veyvah Ice Plant forms part of broader efforts to strengthen fisheries infrastructure and support the operational needs of fishermen, contributing to the sustainable development of the fisheries sector in the Maldives.
