Been working in Mifco for the past 22 years, I am particularly passionate to take up the challenge of turning around Mifco for the CEO’s responsibilities I am assigned with together with my team. Throughout the years, we have been struggling with many obstacles that has yet to make the industry a success. Mifco indeed conducts a large operation nationwide and we are managing the operations tirelessly along with the influential factors in the market environment. It is our vision to deliver a profitable market for fishermen and make the most economic return from fish processing.

Due to the limited processing and storage capacity we have not been able to enjoy the full rewards of the reputable fishery Maldives was once renowned for.  Approximately 75% of the landings have to be disposed to unfavourable markets while this could potentially yield multiple benefits to our economy. Employment, economies of scale packing material costs, market leadership to name a few….

MIFCO’s operations need to be revamped to a cost effective process design immediately. These operational efficiencies could be achieved with decentralized fish collection facilities to minimize costs. Fishing industry has become a promising public investment sector and to cope up with the industry growth we will establish the proper resources at the proper locations. These strategic plans include upgrading of processing tonnage at Felivaru including additional fish landing and storage facilities.  To secure the benefits of cost saving the newly developed processing plant at Addu area will also be utilized for fish processing with further investments. This includes a convenient setup for southern area fishing vessels to land their daily catch at a close reach. Investments will also be directed towards refurbishing our existing facilities to make the operation more efficient.

The strategic development plans comes with the support of government envisioning a sustainable fishing industry for our fishermen. While internal arrangements are actively taking place, we are still faced with the challenges in the International market. Once reputed as the most sustainable fishery in the world, Pole and Line fishery no longer procures a market premium in the competition of raw material price war. Retaining a 100% value-addition process for our Pole and Line will ease the detrimental effects, however with the care of state we will advocate the international market on the uniquely sustainable socio-economic and environmental quality attributes of the Maldivian Fishery and reclaim our fair earnings.

And last but the most significant, my fellow colleagues! I share the same dreams of a better tomorrow for our beloved company. Working as a family with most of our daily hours spent here, throughout our entire life! I am confident that the hardship, patience and dedication will win its rewards. Soon enough we will be able to get a relief from our current shortcomings and will finally be able to live a quality life with our families. I owe my most sincere gratitude for your unconditional service!
