MIFCO Inaugurates Addu Fish Processing Facility in Hulhumeedhoo

Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) has officially inaugurated the Addu Fish Processing Facility in Hulhumeedhoo, Addu Atoll, marking a significant milestone in enhancing fish processing capacity in the southern region of the Maldives.

The facility was inaugurated at a ceremony held in Hulhumeedhoo, officiated by the State Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources, Aminath Hussain Shareef. The event was attended by MIFCO’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Brigadier General (Retd) Farhath Shaheer, alongside senior officials from MIFCO and representatives of the Addu Fisheries Complex.

Established to process yellowfin tuna caught in the southern Maldives, the Addu Fish Processing Facility is expected to significantly improve the handling, preservation, and value addition of fisheries products in the region. The development will provide local fishermen with enhanced opportunities to increase income while ensuring access to high-quality, processed fish products for the community.

The facility is equipped with modern blast freezing technology, enabling efficient processing and preservation of fish. Frozen fish products will be available for purchase through the MIFCO Hulhudhoo outlet starting immediately.

MIFCO is also undertaking efforts to establish a distribution network to ensure that products from the facility are accessible across Addu Atoll.

This initiative reflects MIFCO’s continued commitment to strengthening the national fisheries sector by improving infrastructure, enhancing supply chain efficiency, and supporting the livelihoods of fishing communities across the Maldives.
