MIFCO lowers price of fuel sold to fishermen

The Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) has reduced the price of fuel sold to fishermen at its centers, effective from today.

The price adjustment, implemented under an agreement signed with Fuel Supplies Maldives (FSM), will result in an average reduction of 51 laari per liter for fuel sold to all fishermen. Fishermen who supply more than three tons of fish to MIFCO will benefit from a higher reduction, averaging 71 laari per liter.

Under the revised pricing, all parties supplying fish to MIFCO will be able to purchase fuel at MVR 13.90 per liter. Those supplying more than three tons of fish will be eligible to purchase fuel at a further reduced rate of MVR 13.72 per liter.

In addition, the price of fuel sold to the general public at MIFCO centers has also been reduced to MVR 14.43 per liter, effective today.

These revisions were implemented in line with government policies aimed at reducing the cost of services provided to fishermen while enhancing the quality and accessibility of those services. The fuel price reduction for fishermen was announced by His Excellency President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during the official Fishermen’s Day ceremony held last night in R. Dhuvaafaru.

Since fish is the primary component in Maldivian cuisine, fishing has always been an important part of the beloved Maldivian way of life. After being used for domestic purposes, any extra catch was either saved for future use or conserved for export. Whether made from the day’s fresh catch or from properly preserved tuna products, Maldivian mealtimes are usually enhanced with one or more delectable tuna dishes.
