Over MVR 40.3 Million Disbursed to Fishermen in January

In January 2026, over MVR 40.3 million was disbursed to fishermen for their catches.

Under the government’s policy of releasing funds within 48 hours, MIFCO has continued to make timely payments. During the January 2026, 2,301.73 tons of skipjack tuna were weighed at MIFCO by 199 vessels, with a total of MVR 36,983,076.60 paid to fishermen for these catches.

Following the recent commencement of yellowfin tuna procurement, MIFCO processed 80.45 tons of yellowfin tuna weighing 10–15 kg in January. These catches, supplied by 168 vessels, resulted in MVR 1,608,960 disbursed to fishermen.

In addition, 72.16 tons of yellowfin tuna weighing over 15 kg were weighed at MIFCO in January. A total of MVR 1,804,075 was paid for this category, supplied by 148 vessels.

MIFCO continues to release payments for yellowfin tuna under the same 48-hour policy applied to skipjack tuna, ensuring fishermen receive timely funds for their catches.
