MIFCO has made an investment in a 1,500 MT cold storage and processing plant located in the southern Maldives. The Addu Atoll region has grown to be a significant contributor to national fish landings as state investment in the fisheries sector has increased. It became crucial to set up a land-based cold storage facility to handle this higher volume.
A desalination plant, a fish meal facility that uses all of the plant’s fish waste, a water storage and distribution system, warehousing facilities for raw materials and completed goods, and 210-meter berthing facilities for fishing and collection vessels are the main support facilities. Additionally, a laboratory is included within the operation to assess the quality of fish landing.
